>> From caustik.com
Phew!! Finals are almost over. Spent a little time today and fixed a section name generation bug in cxbe/cxbx. You will want to download this new version (both CXBX and CXBE). I should have some free time to work on OpenXDK now, especially USB support. Also, I am working with Xecuter team to fix up incompatibility problems between Xecuter2 mods and OpenXDK. I also plan on working on CXBE and CXBX now that I should have alot more free time.
The Eeprom Clone Experiment
>> Kickace1616 & Alkane on our forums tried to connect with identical EEPROMs to Xbox Live.
Here's the conclusion:
Both parties could connect to Xbox Live at the same time, host games, and join games. The only problem was that the two users with the same EEPROMs could not join the same games.
The errors we got when we tried to join the same game were: Moto GP - "The game session is no longer available" MechAssult - "No reponse from host"
We were able to join separate games fine & we each played at the same time with no problems.
The next day we both were not banned & were able to log on at the same time with no problems. Our XYZ codes have not changed since the last time we connected.
Conclusion: Multiple people CAN use the same EEPROM but they will be unable to join the same game. I wouldn't recommend trying this cause this can change, but for now you can use the same eeproms.
It looks like few people on the forum & irc say it can take several days before your xbox gets banned. So don't try this at home before it's confirmed still working after some days.
Check out this thread on the Xbox-Scene forums for more info.

Europe Christmas Pack : Xbox + SegaGT2002 + JSRF + HALO = €250
>> From xbox.ign.com/:
Well, wouldn't today be good day to be German. Apparently, the holiday Xbox package which includes JSRF and SegaGT has generated a substantial increase in sales in Germany - enough to convince Microsoft that by throwing in Halo on top of the deal, they'll convince everyone who still hasn't bought an Xbox to do so. So everyone who buys the Xbox holiday package between December 11 and December 31 will also receive a free copy of Halo too. [/QOUTE]
With an average gameprice between €60 and €70 in Europe and the xbox pack for €250 this means you have the xbox for about €40-€70! It's unclear if this offer is only for germany or for all EU countries.
Thanks goes to N.S. for sending us this link.

Team X-ecuter reply to Evox Team
>> Here's X-ecuters reply to the previous news. (about secret bug used in evox D.6 bios)
From x-ecuter.com:
Thank you to EvoX for taking the time to reply to our post. First of all the "trick" used is indeed one of the backdoor tricks used for easy hack of future versions. Of course you say you weren't to know and that's fine, it's no big deal now, we were just hoping it wasn't going to be included in any working public BIOS - even though the methods are available to those that seek hard enough. You are also correct in saying there are other methods, we were simply hoping they wouldn't be included in any public release. However you talk about money a lot in your reply. Well we give our BIOS out for free, along with other software and we only sell hardware, so to say we are only in it for the money is inaccurate, in fact everything we do is exactly the same as you - we just happen to also sell hardware. As you are on the subject of money perhaps you should look at your blatant support of the cash cow Matrix who offer nothing to the scene only product for profit. Where there is nothing wrong with this, it certainly does not warrant comparing your non-profit views with ours, and we really don't want to go into the subject of damaging the scene, you only have to idle in a few chans to see what's damaged the scene recently. But if its wrong to be out spoken and to voice ones own views and thoughts then we apologise. However we look forward to continued co operation which we have enjoyed in the past and certainly recently by particular members of your team and offer our best wishes this Christmas.
Reply from Evox Team about "secret" backdoor in Evox D.6
>> Here's the reply from Evox Team after X-ecuter said they used a secret backdoor to make their dual bios.
From evox.xboxhackz.net:
Yesterday Executer made a public statement that Evox had revealed a previously unknown "Secret Backdoor" rendering it useless for future use. Since we have not been working directly with Executer or Linux teams we did not know what this secret backdoor was or if we had revealed it. We then decided to contact respected people in the community with knowledge of the backdoor and explain the methods we used. Conclusion was that Evox had not used or revealed the backdoor and that Executer had been mistaken in their sayings.
To quote NumbNut:
According to what you've explained, you're not using the ''forbidden hack'' and have nothing to worry about. In fact, your methods seem to be a pretty smart use of already-known hacks to give excellent functionality in 256KBytes.
If we have used another secret backdoor only known to Executers, we are deeply sorry (but how was we to know) If that is the case we can assure you that there are still unrevealed backdoors left known by the Linux Team and by us, for possible future use.
We will now politely ask Executer, to please consider what you write about other people in the scene before making severe allegations like you have done previously. We know that Executer is in it for the money, and offcourse want's to always be a step ahead in order to gain more sales. Evox dashboard and BIOS development is for us only a spare time project, and we have never charged a cent for any of our work. But when you come out with statements like you do, you are only hurting the scene instead of improving it. Most people had already forgot about the secret backdoor until you brought it up, and now everyone is talking about it, and it certainly has got all the attention it shouldn't have had.
Looking forward to your future releases, and better cooperation.
Merry Christmas
The Evox Team
X-ecuter 2 Lite shipping
>> I heard there was some discussion why Extreme-Mods didn't ship the X-ecuter2 Lite pre-orders yet.
Right now only 1 shop , Mr Modchips , that ships ONLY to UK received a small quantity of X2L stock. None of the other official resellers got their X-ecuter2 stock yet. The chips have been sent to Extreme-Mods and are now probably at the US customs. Large orders take some time to be cleared , but they should be available after the weekend. Extreme-Mods will be the first USA shop (shipping worldwide) with X-ecuter2 Lite stock.

Microsoft's Xbox sold at discount by the Japanese
>> From taipeitimes.com:
Laox Co, which has more than 20 outlets selling consumer electronics in Tokyo, said it's offering the Xbox for Japanese Yen 19,800 (US$160) until Dec. 25 at its stores and through its Web site. Chain retailers Sofmap Co and Sakuraya Co are selling the game machine at the same price.
The discount places the price of Microsoft's Xbox at about a fifth less than the Japanese Yen 24,800 selling price of Sony's older PlayStation2 console at the same retailers. Sony's Playstation2 has outsold the Xbox about 11-fold in Japan, while Nintendo Co has sold about three times as many of its GameCube consoles.
Selling the console below Microsoft's recommended retail price may help Japanese retailers reduce inventories of the game console?.
Reply from Team Evoultion-X on news posted by X-ecuter
>> From evox.xboxhackz.net:
For now we only have something to say about IGR... It was never Executers idea or feature... It was brought to the xbox long time before executers released their bios... BIOS Solution is theirs.. they did it first no But our way of doing it is completely different... Just like Executers method is different from the HW method...
News from Team X-ecuter : Evox D.6 & Future plans
>> From x-ecuter.com:
We awoke to find what we were hoping wouldn't happen. EvoX released the bios to support both console versions. Now many may think this is great, but we are very sad about this, and we're sure the Xbox Linux team are also. When we first cracked the v1.1, Xbox Linux and ourselves knew about the secret backdoor (actually a bug) in the Xbox that enabled us to crack it so fast. Of course the only way to conceal this was to release 2 x different BIOS's, but now the secret is out and the consequences won't be clear until a new version is released. We thought we'd tell you as you'd probably want to know why we wouldn't be cracking the next version in 2 days instead of 2 months. Aside from this nice to see you improved the sloppy upload speed and fixed the skin bug (oh and thanks for the credit on the IGR function hmmmm), we hope to see even more improvements in future. Also well done to PiXEL8 for solving the true VGA output problem.
Many have been wondering what's going to happen next. Well the biggest thing going on around here right now is the neXgen dash. It's absolutely awesome and will eventually blow any competition out of the water. Expect a release shortly. Also our BIOS is having a few tweeks so you can expect a new release in the next day or so. We're also working on some different projects of interest which we'll talk about in more detail after Christmas. We're having fun right now with disassembling some very popular code which we think will benefit the scene by making it more "available" - a compressed XBE is good to no one so perhaps a complete strip down all the way to .asm maybe more fun?. Have a great Christmas - all updates will be posted on the forums by various members of the team, this news page is now closed for the holidays.
WinTV PVR USB on Xbox
>> From xboxmediaplayer.de
I now believe that I have come to the point where I *believe* that this new feature is actually possible. I don't know yet if it *will* be possible, there are still many big hurdles to overcome.
Ok, so you're probably wondering what I'm being long winded about. What I've been doing lately is trying to discover if its possible to use the XDK to send Usb packets to Usb devices attached to the Xbox. Usb devices otherwise not supported.
Still don't know where I'm going with this? Specifically, my ultimate goal is to add support for the WinTV PVR USB to XBoxMediaPlayer.
Yeah, I'm trying to add PVR support to the XBox.
There's a long ways to go on this project. Don't go out and by a WinTV PVR USB yet. There's still some serious hurdles to overcome. And still a lot more reverse engineering to do. There are linux drivers (which this will be based off of) but the linux driver is still in a very early state.
Evolution-X 1.8.3285 dashboard & Evox D.6 bios released!
>> Update of the most popular xbox dashboard!
What's fixed on the dashboard: * Fix crash when using backup function on v1.1 boxes * FTP Speed improvement: You will only notice an improvement on some combinations of HDD and XBox. If you are already getting 5000K/s uploading to XBOX, don't expect more. * FTP Filename check: Transferring files with FATX incompatible file names will now produce an error * FTP CWD command fixed. * SNTP : Now it can run with @NetClock Server * Skin Image Quality improved with 640x480 images (no more stretching)
What's new on the dashboard: * In Game Reset: We bring you In Game Reset with the RemoteX dashboard (no need to upgrade your bios for this function) IGR is availale in 3 modes (Select from Settings Menu): FTP IGR -> When you launch from FTP Client e.g. execute f:\mame\deafult.xbe RDTools IGR -> When you launch from VC++ MISC IGR -> IGR when launching normally If you want IGR in original games you have to use the Launch DVD function from RemoteX or enable Auto Launch Game and insert the DVD when you are in RemoteX dashboard. * Telnet Server: A very limited (so far) telnet server. Functions available are: PCIDUMP, IODUMP, MEMDUMP, CDSECTORDUMP, HDDSECTORDUMP, O, DIR, QUIT, EXIT * Date Swap: Swap dd/mm/yyyy -> mm/dd/yyyy * AutoSize bios file: Evox will now automatically autosize the bios image to fit the flash type e.g. 256 -> 512 ; 256 -> 1024 ; 512 -> 1024
What's new/fixed on the bios: * This release will work on both v1.0 & v1.1 xbox , it has the same features as evox 2.6/3.6 and is still only 256k (so works fine on cheapmod & matrix/xodus).
Note that you can still use the older guides/tutorials (made for evoluution-X v1.8.2594 or higher) for more info how to install and use this dashboard. Check it out here

Xbox 2 to be "smaller"
>> From gamesarefun.com :
According to Ohura, the "Xbox 2," as it has been so unoriginally dubbed by half the media (we prefer to call it NeXtBox; please laugh), will be much smaller in size than its predecessor. One of the largest complaints against Microsoft's current hardware is that its much too big. There was a theory that a lot of Japanese people would not buy the Xbox based off of its gynormous figure. While we think that's silly, apparently MS is taking some stock in it; they want everyone to know, Xbox 2 will be smaller. Also, since Microsoft is betting on Playstation 3 hitting retailers in 2005, they're hard at work on developing strategies to counter the consoles impending release. Presumably, Microsoft wants to have its next-generation console out around the same time, to prevent Sony from having an enormous lead after a year on the market.
WARNING: HDD LOCK on Xbox v1.1 + EEPromer v0.45
>> Here an important warning from superfro (Dextrose) if you try to lock your HD on an xbox v1.1
It's been discovered that maybe 1.1 is using a different RC4 used to get the key to the hd used to generate the password for locking and unlocking harddisks. After a few of you have ran the lock and rebooted, and found the drive inaccessable. I deeply appologise for that, I don't have a 1.1 box to test on. I am currently working on a solution to unlock your drives so you can use it. I believe I have a solution but I'm waiting for someone to test it. I will post here if/when I have a tested solution. Don't worry, we'll fix it up.
He also released an updated version of his EEPromer. What's new/fixed: * HD password shown in the TXT file was missing some of the 0's in the password (and end of key properly padded with 0's). HD Password shown is correct now. * Added msg for 1.1 users not to use the lock/unlock function until we figure out why that didn't work

Media X Menu 0.9c released!
>> What's new/fixed: * Added the ability to navigate using the thumbsticks * Fixed the PersistDisplay() issue. Loading screens now display. * WMV is now a supported format! The videos will loop, and sound is disabled in this release by default. I'll add parameters to change those (sound does work) shortly. WMV files can be used ANYWHERE an image file is used. Thanks go out to Syn3rgy @ the xboxhacker.net forums for knocking down the remaining barriers on this feature. * Moving away from ini files. XML will be the new standard (faster loading) To make things easier, I've included a converter, to modify existing files to the new format. * Disable for auto-config - Set Main->AllowAutoConfig to No (or Off/false) * Main->MoveDelay - Time between pressing down/up and the menu changing selections in Repeat mode. * Main->RepeatDelay - Time between holding down/up and the program repeating the move. * Main->LoadSkin parameter to select a specific skin (Based on directory name) * Main->ExitApp allows you to specify a dashboard other than the 'default' one, such as "C:\evoxdash.xbe" when using the dashboard sequence. This solves a problem when using MXM as your default dashboard application. * Well, a lot of work, but I've sped things up a bit (well, not really sped up, as much as shuffled things around) and added a nice fade in to a moving sky and MXM logo just before hitting the title screen. * Smooth transitions now occur between menu states * the slight "stutter" from the music when MXM starts up is now fixed.
