Xecuter CK3 Pro Changed Version - Clarification
>> From team-xecuter.com:
It seems we need to clarify why we have changed the CK3 Pro design. Two simple reasons:
1. To help people who PLUG IN THE DVD CABLE THE WRONG WAY AROUND. This is not a CK3 Pro design flaw, so the current batch of CK3 Pro will work PERFECTLY for you if you follow the simple instructions.
2. To help people who have unstable USB voltages running from their PC. This is not a CK3 Pro design flaw, so the current batch of CK3 Pro will work PERFECTLY for you if you simply use the original USB cable that was supplied and plug that USB into the motherboard USB port as the very few who have problems may be using a front USB or an add-on usb or a USB hub that has an unstable voltage.
99% of users have been using the CK3 Pro with superb success. We have responded to the very very small amount of users so we can make an optimum returns process if that user makes a mistake or if they don't have a stable USB connection.
There is absolutley no need for anyone to request any particular version as, if used correctly, they will all do the exact same job for you. Resellers will not be swapping out any stock of the current version for any stock of the newer designs as it is absolutley unneccasery and would be a waste of everyones time.
Xecuter Response to CK3 Pro Burn-Out Issues
>> From team-xecuter.com:
Having received a few reports on the CK3 Pro burning out for some users we did some major investigating and here are our results:
First of all, there seems to be 2 problems that are happenning, one is the 5V trace burnt out, the other one is PL-2303 becoming hot / failing, and here are our findings:
1. 5V trace burnt out: This certainly happens with users plugging the power cable in the wrong way, if you plugged power cable up-side down, then the 5V power was connected to Ground directly and burnt out the trace when turning on the switch, that's why users always say the 5V trace burned out, but never said that 12V/3.3V trace was burned out, and every piece of CK3 Pro/Lite tested in the factory with PC USB detected test and power output tooling test before they ship out, so it's the ONLY reason to burn out the 5V trace -> the Power Cable was plugged up-side down, anyway, we are now making CK3 with PPTC protection as reported earlier, so this should solve that issue problem.
2. PL-2303 (CK3 PRO IC) became hot: A few users post about they found the PL Chip getting hot by plugging the USB cable only; we thought the PL chip was burning out for an unknown reason as we couldn't reproduce (for your information, the PL chip gets power from USB port only, it doesn't get any power connected to the CK3 Pro, and there are only 2 data traces connected between PL chip and CK3 Pro, no more!) So we have discovered that it is damaged from the input power of the PL chip, which it gets from the USB port, and if the USB port supports 5V power which is not stable or if another USB cable is used that is poor quality, then it might let the PL chip work with not reliable 5V power, then it may become damaged. We will change the layout to add more protection components on the power circuit of PL chip to compensate for unstable USB 5v sources.
RECOMMEND: Try a Motherboard USB port in the back of the PC (Not add-on card or front usb connector)
Please not that over 80k have shipped and we have received a total of 203 returns which have all been replaced. Please follow your suppliers warranty instructions on purchase as they are all different. If we receive any faulty stock we replace immediatley. Please bear in mind that if the 5v trace is burnt out then some suppliers may not swap out due to the instructions not being followed regarding the DVD cable being the correct way around and this may be classed as physical damage.
We take great care in providing a quality product and many many thousands of users have reported great success. You will always expect a returns rate, however we stand by our warranty and are committed to giving the greatest of customer care.
We have attached a few images to show our test procedures.
MS man explains why it's hard to police homophobia on Live
>> From eurogamer.net:
Xbox Live policy manager Stephen Toulouse has offered further of explanation of why the word "gay" can't be used in gamertags or profiles.
Eurogamer contacted Toulouse to ask why Microsoft doesn't just allow the use of the word, and take action against those who use it pejoratively - as it takes action, for example, against those who use racist language.
"The challenge in this case is that the words themselves are both used as slurs and not," Toulouse replied.
"No one uses, as an insult, 'You're a black man.' Instead they use the n-word (which as an aside is of course forbidden as well). Unfortunately it's harder to define identification from abuse with sexual orientation."
Toulouse went on to offer an example: "Consider the gamertag 'Bobisgay'. Is the person calling someone named Bob gay? Or is the gamertag owned by Bob and he is referring to himself in the third-person?"
Benheck Darksiders Xbox 360 Laptop for THQ
>> From benheck.com:
Here is the Xbox 360 laptop prize for THQ's "Darksiders" game. The casing / shell design was done by myself and then Colorware (over in Minnesota - go midwest!) printed graphics on it using Joe Madureira artwork as a basis. It's pretty slick looking, I'd heard of Colorware before but this is first time I've seen what they can do in person. Very glossy! The game itself comes out later this year I believe.
New Games Don't Boot on Stealth Firmwares - iXtreme 1.51/1.6 WIP
>> New games like MLB 2009 and Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. don't boot from recordable discs on Xbox 360s with modified stealth firmwares. The reason in short: these games include the NXE dashboard update inside the video partition of the disc. The newer 'stealth' iXtreme firmwares check the crc of the video partition and if it doesn't match 'wave1' or 'wave2' it will refuse to boot the disc. This new video partition that includes the NXE dashboard upgrade is 'wave 3' and support will have to be added for it in the iXtreme firmwares.
Older non-stealth firmwares do not check the video partition, so these will probably boot the discs, but it's unsafe (alias stupid) to use these firmwares on a Xbox360 you also want to connect on LIVE, as it can/will get you banned.
C4eva and his team are already working on a new iXtreme version for all drive versions. iXtreme v1.51 will probably include full 'wave3' support (including for Hitachi drives). v1.6 is planned for later with 0800 dumping for all drives as well! There are no deadlines for the release, it'll be out when it's ready and tested, so please don't ask ... it shouldn't take too long.

Microsoft undecided on Netflix for Europe
>> From eurogamer.net:
UK Xbox boss Neil Thompson has declined to comment on when - or indeed whether - European 360 owners will ever get a Netflix-style movie download service.
"Netflix is a great deal in the US, and we're looking at what we might want to do here in the future," Thompson told Eurogamer. "But we think the content we're offering is broad-ranging and pretty deep. We have to evolve the live service in different territories at different speeds, depending on what we're able to achieve."
So, any chance we might see a Netflix-style deal in Europe by, say, the end of this year? "I don't know yet where we're going to take the services we've got," Thompson said. "We're concentrating on delivering the services we've got and bolstering the content we've got."
He added, "There will be evolutions of that service, absolutely, but I'm not going to give you any timelines or specifics." Oh well.
Halo3: One BILLION Matches Served
>> From bungie.net:
Saturday night, while many of us were stuffing food into our faces, plenty of folks were still playing Halo 3. At precisely 6:36pm PST, in a three minute and nineteen second game of Infection on Foundry, four players participated in Halo 3's one billionth match.
One Billion. It's a giant number, one that's difficult to understand without the proper context. Our first thought was to put it into perspective by comparing Halo 3's total games played with its predecessor, Halo 2, a title that we are still super proud of, and one that's topped the original Xbox LIVE Leaderboards since its launch through to present day - over four years of online gaming.
But there's a problem with that comparison. Halo 2 has yet to achieve one billion games played. As of right now, it's sitting pretty at 798 million total matches played. Surprised? We were.
Total Matchmaking Playtime: 2,023,153,340,764 seconds. Yes, that's two Trillion seconds, or 64,109 years of playtime
